There are over 20,000 edible plants in the world and the average American eats barely 20 in a lifetime
Orphic magazine is a food-based publication, with the aim of encouraging people to try new plants and expand their food comfort zones. I came up with the idea after discovering the fact that there are over 20,000 edible plants in the world and the average American eats barely 20 in a lifetime (Britain isn’t much better). Obesity is an increasing problem and increasingly evidence suggests a diet without much plant variety is a contributing factor. Each issue of orphic introduces the reader to four new plants from grains to fruits, telling the reader how they can prepare, store and cook the food.
